Brief info

Dr. Gisa Gerold is a Full Professor & Director of the Institute of Virology at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. She is a trained biochemist, who did her PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany. Subsequently, she worked as a postdoc in the group of Prof. Charles M. Rice at the Rockefeller University, New York, USA.
Building on over 17 years of experience in the field of virology, she has studied the hepatitis C virus and arboviruses with a focus on alphaviruses. More recently she was involved in clinical studies on RSV and TBEV. Her institute is part of the Global Virus Network and she serves as a mentor for next generation scientists in several programs.
Within EAVI, Dr. Gerold will serve as Coordinator and Principal Investigator.
