Brief info
IHI is a Tanzanian non-profit research institute with ISO-certified clinical and lab operations. It has a strong record in GCP-compliant trials, including pivotal malaria vaccine studies such as RTS,S and R21. The Bagamoyo clinical trial center supports Phase I–III studies with trained physicians, nurses, data managers, and an internal quality assurance system. Laboratories are GCLP-accredited and include safety labs equipped for hematology, biochemistry, and TB diagnostics. IHI also has a BSL-3 lab, ELISA and flow cytometry capabilities, and a specimen biorepository with continuous monitoring. The Genomics Unit provides high-throughput NGS services and molecular diagnostics. IHI also runs advanced entomological infrastructure for vector studies, with insectaries, field surveillance tools, and genotyping capabilities. Community engagement is central to IHI’s approach, with long-standing Community. Advisory Boards (CABs) facilitating ethical conduct and informed participation in trials.
