KEMRI is Kenya’s premier health research body with over 40 years of experience in infectious disease research, outbreak response, and vaccine development. It operates 23 clinical trial sites, four BSL-3 labs, a WHO VHF reference lab, and a central biobank. Its interdisciplinary team includes virologists, immunologists, statisticians, and regulatory experts. KEMRI is experienced in managing large-scale clinical trials for HIV, malaria, and monoclonal antibodies. Its advanced genomics lab and bioinformatics unit support cutting-edge analysis. The Sample Management and Receiving Facility (SMRF) ensures high-quality specimen handling and storage for longitudinal vaccine studies. The institute also leads in technology transfer, enabling translation of research into public health impact, supported by a dedicated Innovation and Technology Transfer Division. Its regional and international collaborations further bolster its role as a central African hub for vaccine R&D.
